Scouting Report: Noblesville Girls

Scouting report interview with Noblesville girls cross country head coach Dennis Scheele. A fifth place finishing squad in last year's state meet, the Noblesville girls will first need to advance out of a very competitive gauntlet in the qualifier meets leading up. The team has made it to the semi-state level for 15 straight years. A total of 4 runners from last year's varsity lineup return led by #1 runner Abigail Little and 3 more runners with sub 19 minute credentials in Kat Dombroski, Susanna Sharples-Gordon, and Sophie Reichard.

1. How many years have you been coaching high school cross country (and at your current school)?
Beginning my 40th year CC and 37th T&F. At Noblesville, 34 CC years  and 30th year T&F

2. What do you attribute as the main reasons for the success of your program? 
Respect as well as adventure

3. What would be the best way to describe your style and philosophy of coaching and working with high school runners? 
Its all about that speed

4. What are your core beliefs in your training plan and workouts for your cross country squads? 
"57" - five (5) on fast days and seven (7) miles on long days- Time trial everyday-Its all about that speed

5. How many runners do you return from your top 7 from a year ago? 
four (4)

6. Who is your projected top 7 heading into the cross country season? 
Top eight (8) are: Abi Little (12), Aubrie Deal (11), Audrey Swart (11), Taylor Gregory (10), Sophie Reichard (10), Sophie Stahl (9), Madison King (10) and Maria Anderson (11) 

7. Who are your team captains or leaders and what stands out about them as examples for the rest of their teammates? 
Due to the size of the squad (52) we have four (4): All seniors-Abi Little, Mikayla Marowski, Savanna Congrove and Sydney Luce

8. Who have you been most impressed or surprised with their improvement and/or fitness from their summer training? 
Our 2016 support girls (4-7) are taking advantage of their opportunities. They're now in our top 5.

9. Any impactful freshmen or transfers to join the team this season? 
Bella Sharples-Goron and Sophie Stahl will contribute immediately. We have several others working towards the top 12 (sectional team)

10. What are the top invitational meets that your team will be attending this season? 
We run Invitationals every weekend. No breaks. That's nine (9) Invites. I'd rather race than practice.

11. What will be the biggest obstacle or challenge facing your team this season? 
Advancing to State from Shelbyville. At least 4 top 25 teams will not advance.

12. What will be the biggest reason why your team is successful this season? 
Setting and achieving daily goals.

13. What is a favorite annual or common pre-season workout or run for your team? 
3x1200m time trials

14. What is a favorite annual or common mid-season workout for your team? 
3x1200m time trials

15. What is a favorite annual or common championship season or end-of-season workout for your team? 
3x1200m time trials
