Ben Davis Girls Regional Recap

The star of the show, as with any meet she appears at, Lynna Irby had a great night as she makes her way to her 4th and final state finals. She trotted through the preliminary heats as if they were a warmup for her, winning her heats. Then came the finals. In the 100m dash, she made it look easy. Winning in 11.78, lowering her own record by .09. She narrowly beat out Brebeuf sophomore Semira Killebrew with her time of 11.99. Three events later, Irby was back for the 400m. This time she had a little more room to cruise across the line, beating Courtney Jones(NC) 54.53 to 56.89. Her second updated regional record of the night. Lynna got another short break before the 200m dash finals. Again, bettering her post season record to 55-0, Irby narrowly won in 24.70, just .22 ahead of Kya Simmons-Avant of Ben Davis.

Irby also was apart of Pike's 4x400 team at the end of the night which placed 4th, missing the state standard, but they did earn a spot at state receiving a call back.

The 4th place team, Lawrence North came and proved that they are a team to compete with. At the discus ring, senior Princess Carter tossed 130ft 3.5in to take home the win, advancing to the state meet next week and meeting the state standard.

At the beginning of the night, the 4x800 team finished in 2nd with a time of 9:36.02. Gabby Grider(10) assisted in taking the team into first place, leading her leg from start to finish. Brebeuf came out on top though taking over the race in just the last 400m. They took home the win in 9:28.56.

Lawrence North's standout distance runner, Grace Dean, doubled in the 1600/800. In the 1600, she took 1st place in 5:05.71. The race was close throughout with the lead changing all the time. Dean didn't take the lead until the final lap. Erin Sullivan(12) of Southport and Leah Keesling(9) of Randolph Southern also advance to state. In the 800, it looked like Dean had a shot at winning here as well. After lap one she was .1 behind the eventual winner, Erin Sullivan. Grace finished 3rd in 2:17.36, behind Katherine Modrall(11) of Brebeuf in 2:15.69.

Brebeuf took the win in the 4x100, with 47.76, just .02 off their season best thus far. Nakita Turner(11) took the 100 hurdles, in 14.87, a good half second in front of De'Aira Simmons(11) of Lawrence Central.

Another junior of LC won long jump, Jai-Lyn Norwood with a jump of 18ft .75in.
