The annual Midwest Prep Invitational has faced many changes and challenges over its long history. Years ago when the meet was a boys only invitational held in May around prom season, it was a hard sell for young men to dedicate onesself on a Friday night to jump or run into a quagmire of sweat and exhaustion. Eventually the meet was moved out of IUPUI's downtown stadium and taken over by Lawrence Central High School. This year the meet faced challenges from the Easter holiday when several teams were stricted from traveling. Notable regional squads from Illinois and Michigan were grounded because of such reasons. There were several newly formatted meets and old ones that competed for area talent. As well the host Lawrence Central is dealing with issues of their own. The Bears are undergoing a stadium renovation which should be ready in 2018. In the meantime, it was the cozy confines of Marian College that played a good host for a high school track and field meet.
