Weekend Notes: Is Crown Point the Second Best Team in the State?

When results came in for the Rudy Skorupa Invitational, I felt a little skeptical of the times. Crown Point, a team that finished 16th in 2014, looked incredible. This weekend they fell short against two very solid teams in Carmel and Fishers, totaling 101 points to finish third at the State Preview. Here's the catch -- they did that without their top runner from their previous meet, Ryan Kepshire. The senior who ran 15:40 last week was 16 seconds ahead of their number 2 runner at that race. If we apply that same gap, he finishes somewhere around fifth place, bringing their points down by just about 30 points. This would put them at 70 points, only 20 points behind Carmel (granted their #2 was sick), and over 10 points ahead of Fishers.

Another indication that Crown Point is the real deal is judging the teams they have beat. Last week they beat Lake Central who this week won at the Harrison Raider Classic over West Lafayette and LaPorte.

Crown Point is the real deal!
