The 2013 Carmel Greyhound Boys' Cross Country Team returns a strong mix of veterans and young talent that will look to defend the 2012 Indiana State Championship and seek a return trip to the Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon where they were the first Carmel Boys' team to qualify last year. Carmel is the Preseason #1 ranked team in Indiana and the #17 ranked team in the Nation by XCNation.com. The Hounds will begin the season hosting their Carmel Classic Distance Medley at the Northview Church course on Saturday August 24th. As we run through our challenging schedule we will look for a solid effort at the Trinity Invitational in Louisville Kentucky on September 21st which will feature three teams ranked in the top 20 in the Nation.
Leading the team will be Senior Co-Captain Robert Browning who was All-State in last year's State Meet. Other returners from last year's State Champion Team include fellow Co-Captains Ben Anderson (12) and Michael George (12) along with Sophomore standout Ben Veatch. Training very well over the summer and expected to contribute for Varsity positions include Seniors Josh Horowitz, Daniel Sechuga, Kyle Hook, Alex Cashbaugh and Collin McMahon. Juniors expected to strengthen the team include Jace Wisdorf, Michael Lukovic, Andrew Kalthoff, Elijah St. Angelo, Ben Hatfield, Zach Horowitz, James Holland, Collin Skiles and Jake Hostetler. The strong Sophomore class includes Zac Leinheiser, Matthew Croaning and Thomas Revard. A very large incoming Freshman class (38!) will be led early on by Jonah Nichol, Conor Lyons, Kenji Tomozawa, Evan Bouillet and Drew Watson.
The Hounds will look for a strong race at the Indiana State Meet on November 2nd and then hope to carry that momentum onward for a solid effort at the Nike Cross Nationals on December 7th hoping to dramatically improve on last year's 11th place finish. Our motto this year will be "Seize The Moment". I will keep you informed throughout the season with our results and again thank you for your support.
