Kokomo Athletes Qualify for IHSAA Girls State Meet

Entering the 2013 Regional Track and Field Championships at Northrop High School, the Kokomo High School Ladykats entered eight events and four events have qualified to the Indiana High School Track and Field Championships June 1 at Indiana University Bloomington.

Representing the Ladykats at the state meet for the second consecquentive year: 400-meter relay team of Brianna Lancaster, Ma-Ryssa Martin, Raven Pugh and Iesha Wallace. They quailfied with a season best 49.62.

Also quailfying to state is Anh Pham in the pole vault with an 11'6" vault and Summer Blackamore in the shot and discus. Blackamore set a KHS record in the discus with a 131-0 effort and followed that event with a personal record in the shot put, 43-4.

Placing for the Ladykats, but not advancing to state in their event include Wallace, 12.90, 9th in the 100 and Martin, 26.07, 7th, in the 200.

The Ladykats finished the meet with 34 points for 6th place. Host Northrop won with 78 points. There were 30 teams in the meet.

"We are a BIG meet team and this was a very good BIG meet for us," said KHS coach K.O. Jackson. "Our field coaches (Bobby Pettigrew, Aaron Alexander and Linh Pham) have done an exceptional job with our field event student-athletes. We are balancing that out on the track side and we will do well at the state. The ladies returning to state are all juniors who quailified to state last year as sophomores. We are expecting more from them this year at the BIGGEST meet of the year."
